A Note From Our President
Let's Get Ready for the Next Five Years!
by Ed Yee, PMP, President
We celebrated our PMI Central Mass Chapter’s fifth anniversary in April and registered our 500th member, Derek E Parrotta. Now our Chapter can offer even more value to all our members and colleagues in the Central Mass project management community. Our Chapter is poised for growth. Your board has been reading the Chapter meeting surveys and we will deliver the programs you can use.
A mere three years ago, we offered ten Chapter meetings and a half-day August membership appreciation event. Last year, we offered four special events in addition to our 10 regular monthly chapter meetings. We are off to a flying start this year with more to come. Attendance at our monthly meetings has increased by some 20 percent annually.
This past May, we invited the renown PM Consultant, Neal Whitten, to speak on “No-Nonsense Advice for Successful Projects.” With more than 60+ attendees, we filled the 3COM conference hall in Marlboro. Session feedback was extremely positive. A Microsoft Project 2007 hands-on training session is planned for the end of May at Microsoft’s Technology Center in Waltham. We have signed up for the METsig webinars again in April. Central Mass Chapter members can earn PDU’s on-line. More PDU training is being planned for the second half of 2008, in addition to our annual August event.
To meet our ever-expanding needs, we recently appointed four new members to the board, Gulshan Longani, Sethu Sekhar, Gail Greenberg, and Bob Finizio. Two board members, Debra Wallace and Rowena Sy-Santos attended the PMI Leader Institute Meeting with me in Atlanta, GA last October as “First Timers”, to learn the best practices for running a Chapter. Four board members are planning to attend the May PMI Region 3 leadership training in Quebec City and the Chapter will again send attendees to the PMI Leadership Institute Meeting in Denver, CO in October 2008.
Despite many contributions of our members, we are still seeking new leaders and keen volunteers to organize events and administer the routine Chapter business. Even more importantly, we need people who can grow with the Chapter as it expands. This is your Chapter, show us your ideas and bring us your enthusiasm.
Come join our dynamic team--the best is yet to come!
Warmest personal regards,
Ed Yee
